Instead of a phrasebook?

Spent 3 weeks in Italy and wanted to use this instead of a phrasebook. Unfortunately, out of about 20 or 30 tries with short phrases and words, it provided a useful result only about one time in five. Many times it just gave me the same Italian word back instead of English. Im back to using a book.

In fairness, some of the translation requests - like trying to understand the settings on a washing machine - were not in the phrasebook either.
